Lighting System That Will Help You Cut Energy Cost

If you have been looking for ways to cut off your energy use and cost, here are a few tips to get you started.  Whether you’re into energy saving to join arms with the green revolutionaries or you simply just want to reduce your bill or both doesn’t really matter.  The world can always benefit from any energy saving step one single person takes.  The following are simple to follow energy saving tips and from Earth4Energy by Michael Harvey, Green DIY Energy Guide and Power4Home by John Russel and the USDOE.

To get you started, you can check out your lighting system.  Saving money takes as simple as replacing your lamps with one of those energy saving kinds.  While ordinary lamps convert most of the energy it uses to heat energy and little to light, energy efficient bulbs are exactly the opposite.

Turning off the lights when not in use is one tip you commonly hear people say; however, doing so do not always equal to more savings.  The longevity of a light bulb is greatly affected by how many times during the day you use the on-off switch.  Using the switch more often equals to replacing bulbs faster than you really should.  Lesser efficiency, higher cost and more is what will ensue.  If you’re leaving a room for less than 15 minutes, the government suggests that you leave the light on; this is the general rule.  Otherwise, you will be all the better for it if you turn the lights off.  It would be a good idea too to take a look at your bill for kwh charges and see how much you can save by turning the light off.  This is an even greater idea for areas with higher electricity charges.

Cleaning your lamps when they have noticeably gathered dust is a good practice to get into.  You can also follow a 3- to 6-month rule.  Dust will obviously make it harder for your lighting system to illuminate a room.  Another help you can provide for your lamps to effectively and efficiently illuminate your home is through the use of light-colored paints inside your home.  Brighter illumination also results from good reflection and you can make sure that your walls do these by always making it a point to repaint and clean your rooms as necessary.

Lastly, there is simply nothing better than taking advantage of the natural lighting the sun offers during daytime.  Letting the light in without allowing your house to keep in heat is one sign that you are using a good daylighting technique.  One guideline to help ensure you’ll achieve this is to keep your windows facing north or south and never east or west.  You can take up your energy saving advocacy a notch higher by considering using solar panels.  You can start to use one to power some of your appliances or your lighting system.
